August 2014 – The problem
Most of the residents on Kingsmere do not have access to superfast broadband, they have struggled to get phone lines, and services when available are unreliable. Whilst we understand it is a new estate, and there are issues as a result, the experience of residents is not what is should be on a brand new estate in the fastest growing town in the UK.
Kingsmere Residents’ have made it clear they are very disappointed that Superfast Broadband is not available for most residents through their representation at public forums. So the KRA took this issue forward. Kingsmere resident representatives met with Opereach and BT at the end of August. Following discussions with Openreach, the KRA were told that £60,000 (inc. VAT) was needed to upgrade the 3 cabinets that serve Kingsmere to enable Superfast Broadband for all residents on Phase 1. This is despite the fact that this will be a huge estate, and that there will be a large number of residents expected to subscribe to Superfast Broadband.
